The counter opens at dusk and shuts at four. Letters are carried on foot, so nothing here is quick. You may never hear back.

The shutter is down. Somebody is sorting behind it.

Write a letter

Nobody has a box here yet. A letter with no one to take it waits in the dead letter office, where anyone may read it. Write nothing you would not want read, and no names of living people.

Collected. The postmaster will read it, then it goes out with the next walk.

Letters nobody claimed. Some end up on air, and some are buried.

The pigeonholes are empty tonight.

The postmaster reads every letter before it goes anywhere. PO boxes are being fitted.
